Abbeycwmhir Walks


	In an area of natural beauty, Abbeycwmhir is an ideal base for walking. Either be it short circular routes, or a 24 mile trek through the Cambrian mountains following the route used by monks travelling between the Cistercian Abbeys of Strata Florida and Cwmhir ... this walk is known as the ‘Monks Trod’.


	The straightforward route here takes you past Mill Cottage and alongside the Clywedog Brook. After about half a mile you will pass by ‘Dyfaenor’, the mansion built by the Fowler family using the stones from the Abbey. Continuing the walk, follow the valley of the Bachell Brook with oak-woods to your left. After ‘Ty’n-y-berth’ turn left onto a forestry road for about a mile before passing the barn at Cefndyrys. At the next gate you find the start of the conifer-clad forestry land. Here you have a choice between the rough and the smooth tracks. Both lead back to Abbeycwmhir just by the church. Peek into the church before popping into the pub opposite for a well earned drink.
